Abroad - doing a season in france DG - Apr 02, 2008 - 04:36 PM Post subject: doing a season in france
hey all. Thinking about doing a season next year but not to sure where yet! If its in europe I was thinking about Meribal/ Val T or Tignes/Val D.
The only problem is i have very little french (nearly no french) so was wondering if i would find it very difficult to get a job?
Also was wondering what people think is the best job interms of getting time on the slopes?
Any other info or jabs at my bad spelling is more than welcome
Thanks guys,
Dave.

hi, new to this forum like you, coincedently ive been looking to do the same thing in a couple of years you should look at this website:
tis basically a job centre for companies to advertise jobs at ski resorts, some jobs you will need to be conversational in french like a waiter/waitress, bar manager or resort manager etc. however there is lots of other jobs which you could get by without a word of french
hope that helps

Good jobs are few and far between in European ski resorts. Chances are any digs you get will either be dingy or expensive (or possibly both). The Alps are simple too overcrowded....Unless of course you are happy to bum it - I did for years but now I am 'refined'....
Do yourself a favour and get a job with a holiday operator or other mountain firm; at least the basics are taken care of.

Yup - that's some sensible advice.
Night porter isn't bad; general driving jobs for holiday firms also pretty good.

Oh - from your list, I'd go Tignes/Val. Morzine/Avoriaz is also very popular.
What about hitting up some of the people who advertise on here? Some of them are pretty small operations, but someone's got to do the cleaning.
