Abroad - April for a week between 16-28th?

Post subject: April for a week between 16-28th?
Looking to go away between 16th-28th April. (19th-26th is Sat-Sat that most resorts will do tho).

Female 25 y/o with annoying skiing friends who can't organise themselves - so willing to hook up with random snowboarders instead.

Obviously if people are going those dates already and are short of people that's easier. However - few bits n bobs found already:

Loads of self catered chalets on Ebay - France, Austria etc. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... amp;ih=004

Also there's Pas De La Casa for £288 for B&B for the week -
http://www.icelolly.com/view.php?sdate= ... mp;sap=GRO

Dragon Lodge (found on SCUK discount hol page) would only be £199 pp for week - cheper if we got more people 'on board', lol! Sorry bad joke - http://dragonlodge.com/Prices.html

TTFN, Moi.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Been doing some more researching since - flights to Geneva from Lpool for those dates would be less than £50! (With snowboard baggage an extra £40 or so & in total with taxes about £90ish).

DELUXE accommodation inc. cooked breakfast & 3 course eve dinner at Cold Fusion Chalet (Chamonix) : 20th April - 27th April = £425/£450 http://www.coldfusionchalets.co.uk/pric ... prices.asp

Lift pass = (Recommended Ski passes week long breaks): 6 days=£142 or 7 days=£161

Anyone in or fancy offering me a better alternative? Very tempted to book soon as don't know how long those flights will be available for! Razz

Hmmm .. me and a mate are hoping to do a long weekend the last one in april (go thurs early am, come back late mon ish) ...
Tignes is ideal, dragon lodge looks good ... can't do a whole week tho

Hey Austin,

Is that 'cos of time off work or finances? If it's the finances then by time you've paid for flights, a few extra nights at the dragon lodge wouldn't set you back much.

Long weekend would be an option tho...still holding out for a week if that's cool/if I can persuade you? Wink

Post subject: RE: April for a week between 16-28th?
Hey M,

More of a time off work thing sadly, long weekends use up only 3 days hol and still get 4.5 days boarding, suits me perfectly. Mates just checking his
work today then think we will book it all this week, so if you don't get any luck with getting a week, at least you have a fall back option. (Have you
checked availability at Dragon Lodge btw? If not, I shall)

Anyone else up for joining us?? Cheap weekend in Tignes ... come on!!!

Agrh Dilemma Austin!

Think the dragon lodge was available for then but I've looked at so many places availability they all start to merge. so don't take my word for it!

I'm still very tempted by the long weekend thing but torn as really want a week (as it's prob my only chance unless I get to NZ this summer!)- if you get me some prices I'll have a think!

Cheers, Moi. Cool

Right, lets sort something then - ideally I'd like to book in the next week seeing as my hols start only 3 weeks away and don't wanna miss out. If I can't organise any SCUK peeps then will be forced to go to Cold Fusion chalet or something similiar as going away alone as a beginner is not a great prospect.

Let me know asap. Moi

p.s. Austin - have you booked anything yet?

Hey

I've booked a couple of flights to Geneva for 3rd May, for a week, sat to sat, including the may day bank holiday. Haven't decided on resort or anything yet, but i know Tignes will be fully open, as its still snowing now!

Just thought i'd mention it in case you wanna change dates!

Hey I'd be interested, but would have to check with da boss at work for time off. If more definite dates, let me know, though I reckon the later in April the better since I suspect if I ask for time off right now, my boss would say no (I'd have to reschedule some appointments).

If interested, let me know:)

Unfortunately my dates aren't flexible (last time I'm saying it guys - don't have a choice, I'm unfortunately a teacher Sad) and as it's approaching fast, need to book something (flights at least) this week before it gets too late.

So daisy & skipaheartbeat & harvey- let me know asap & I'll find out about accommodation if you want me to look! Smile

Is Tignes best bet for snow conditions in late April then guys? Will be gutted if I get my arse into gear, get somewhere and it's just mud! :-S

Np Austin - i'll let you off this once as long as you don't nick potential apartment buddies. I'll get ya back with more snow down your neck if you do! Razz

Ok cool Moi, I'll check at work tomorrow to see if I can get the last week off of the dates you suggesting. But I'm def up for it too! Want one last dash before end of season - I just rediscovered boarding after 10 years away....now why couldn't I have done that at the beginning of the season?Very Happy As we say in scotland....eeeeeeejit! Ah well, at least am back on it. Tignes looks great but not so great for us beginners....I can manage a blue run in scotland, but am much much happier and competent on green! But i'll go with the flow.

Ok skip I'll pm you my number as well - so no excuse.

Wouldn't worry you don't sound much of a beginner if you're rediscovering it. This will be my first trip abroad and obviously not going to head to black runs straight away but want to just see how it goes. Anyway, due to dates, beggars can't be be choosers so therefore glacier is best way to go to ensure snow! Very Happy

was wondering about the resort Transfer myself, if there was about 3-4 of us going it might be worth hiring a car. Would cost about the same and we could use it around the resort.

Hi Harvey,
Sorry couldn't get back to you sooner.

Haven't heard back from the dragon lodge yet (via email) so am going to be phoning them in the morning. How many people am I now booking it for??? Me and Kirsty (iskipaheartbeat) are definitely going and according to DL's website their dates will prob run from Exclamation 19th-26th.

We will prob getting seperate flights to Geneva - Kirsty's going from Edinburgh (Easyjet) and me from Leeds Bradford (Jet 2) or Liverpool (Easyjet) - 2 seperate flights rather than round trip look cheaper.

If you're DEFINITELY on board let me know asap!!! If we can't get Dragon Lodge we're going to look at other accomodation options but still within Tignes.

Hope that sounds a bit more of a plan!

Moira. Smile

Post subject: April for a week between 16-28th? Lastest news....
...Called Dragon Lodge several times but just getting through to answer phone - must be changover day if they go Saturday to Saturday.

As this is my first snowboarding holiday and first attempt at trying to organise a bunch of strangers to go away together, I have no idea at this stage how the money thing will work -if DL want it up front or just a deposit. So get your plastic ready - I don't have the funds to pay for 6 people in advance who aren't confirmed!

Can I just confirm people who are DEFINITES:

1. Me = poomoocow aka Moira
2. iskipaheartbeat aka Kirsty
3. harvey aka Harvey
4. sandman aka Wayne
5. adam_2005 aka Adam ???
6. gf of ^ adam_2005^ ???

Some people are suggesting getting a car for transfers as it would be cheaper - i'll let one of the guys sort that Wayne you were interested! Smile

Will ring / pm round you guys asap when hear some more details.

Might be headed to Cas tonight if any of you on the shortlist want to make it for a pre-Tignes ride/drinkie. (Kirsty's out as she's gone up to Aviemore lucky sod).

Moira.

Still not heard back from DL & have called them about 20 odd times today Sad Pretty much wasted my whole day not getting anything else done :-S

Tomorrow's my last chance to get owt sorted as prob off to Cas tonight.

Think if DL's no go maybe we should think about alternative accommodation, e.g. an apartment

hey you guys! well looks like me and moi def going:) we're gonna book our flights tomorrow night for definite, so if you really up for this, get on board!!.i've been away this weekend so not had a chance to help moi out, but if there's anything i can do other than flights let me know. I have an ever so slight hitch, havent actually asked for time off yet....eeek... i really can't see there being a problem, but will confirm for absolute definite tomorrow as discussed with moi tonight. We're gonna have fun:) Hopefully without injuries - i kinda twisted my knee today, but will stay away from glasgow's xscape till the hols to give it a good rest. But have to warn any of you thinking of going,, I'll be confined to beginners, hopefully not for too long, but certainly initially. However sounds like you'll be getting guided well by the runners of the lodge. Am sure we don't have to all ride together and we can all meet lunch/apres slope:) I just realised when in cairngorms today how much harder it is on an ACTUAL slope to turn, rather than in the beautifully controlled, protected, powdery, straight forward slope of xscape! But really wanna get this snowboarding thing sorted, so not gonna give up!

Speak tomorrow Moira! Thanks for all your hard work:)

hey guys.. just joined SCUK.. am a 26 yo f Aussie about to move to London (how original!!). I've got a few week's spare before I start work and am keen to head to the snow for a week late april. i'm arriving on april 23rd; flexible where to go / times etc. still fairly novice (have only boarded twice before!!) but very keen to get improve! if you guys have any room spare for 1 more person that would be ace, do let me know! Well good news! I got annual leave approved:) Phew! So all is go for me. Cass - afraid I'm not able to change my dates now. But you could always come for a few days? Its £30 pernight if paying by the day rather than the week. Although I suspect that huuuuge flight to the uk might wipe yu out for those dates....we come back on the 25th or 26th depending on flights and accomodation.

But there may be others you can go with! The season is closing soon, so I'd get on board (pardon the pun:) asap.

If we dont see you, enjoy London!! You'll love it. Lived there for years. Was even engaged to one of you aussies for a while, but thats a story for another time...eeek:) But lots of good friends who are aussies there.

Kirst

PS don't let any aussie remind you of the "better" times in Oz....enjoy London at the time. Dunno if attitudes have changed, but when the harsh winters set in (and they are harsh for you guys, can fully appreciate that, heck, they're hard for us!), I wanted to hit several aussies who kept reminding me of their amazing country and how they missed it....well flipping go back then! London is wicked, just a drag sometimes to get through winter dark nights. Guess its great for some people and not for others. Brighton is amazing for light relief if you get down at all! As is scotland;)

Harvey love don't worry we're in the same boat...DL are being pretty sh1t at communication at the moment - after me bombarding them with several emails and answer phone messages, I got through a staff member at the lodge who says there's availibility - but STILL have to wait on John to contact me. So i've emailed him again. Me & Kirst are DEF going between 19th-26th, Kirst prob gotta leave a day earlier on 25th. However, from what the website says, transfers are £60 pp through DL - which we'll have to regardless surely as Tignes is a 'no car town' didn't you say?

Me & Kirst are prob gonna try booking our flights tonight just cos we're blummin going, even if we have to sleep on the chair lift LOL!

Ok im desperate to do something about this Wink unlike you two though i want to book my flight after the accomadation. In my past experiences the flight is the easiest part, its getting somewhere to stay that is always the minor problem.

So soon as you have confirmation from DL let me ASAP and ill book myself in and then get my flight. Im 100% for this trip, just hoping it happens or im going to have to rush around and get another one sorted for that week.

Thanks for all the effort Moi and the text replies, you have my mobile so just text me when something changes with DL and ill get into that straight away.
