Post subject: Was thinking of going away in summer
I was thinking of going away for a week of freestyle in the summer, possibly to les deux alpes (http://www.2alpes-snowpark.com/uk/home.php). I haven't done much freestyle but its something I'm looking to improve on. Anyone fancy it?

I have just come back from a weeks holiday there. It is really nice, great bars too. Iv never been to the park though. I was thinking July sometime but I am not to bothered as long as I go at some point this summer, I work for myself so I am really flexible with dates.
m08liv - Mar 13, 2008 - 03:44 PM
Post subject:
my work is easy when i can have dates off so no problem there. what is the nearest airport to this place? also where will you be flying from? i live on the wirral so either liverpool or manchester is best for me.

june, july are best for me anytime... my project has stopped me going away again this winter so summer riding for me!
apparently first week of june is best...
do people mind going by car? it'll cost about £100 for the ferry £300 fuel and tolls split between 3 isn't too bad mountain accomodation in summer can be cheap too!...
passtherizla - Mar 13, 2008 - 03:56 PM
Post subject:
that thing for 280 euro looks like a bargain!
m08liv - Mar 13, 2008 - 04:04 PM

yeah june/july fine by me too. anyway of getting there is a good enough for me. just tryng to look at flights see what i can get
reckoner - Mar 13, 2008 - 04:08 PM

yea I don't mind going by car. is that £300 each for fuel!? or would we split that?
reckoner - Mar 13, 2008 - 05:09 PM

Have just properly checked all of the dates and early-mid july would probably be best for me would be the week starting 16th June.
Would that be cool for you guys?

m08liv - Mar 17, 2008 - 10:15 PM
Post subject:
i would if the costs are right, which so far they seem to be. how soon do you think we would have to book as bit short at the mo?
passtherizla - Mar 18, 2008 - 02:12 PM
Post subject:
not any time soon as its the summer there should be plenty of accomodation...etc
so far I think we're definately going to need either a bigger car or more drivers, alternatively I'll drive with 2 and the rest can meet us there?
also I think my friends Jamie and lee are coming

yea anyone can come! we just need to work out how many are going and how many can drive. I can drive if needs be and I think petrol would be pretty cheap for my car (its only a 1.2). I can take 2 passengers in my car.
about the dates, it looks like the earliest the park opens is the 23rd of june. I could do that week, what does everyone else think?

I'm meant to be going to Hellfest in France on 20th - 22nd.
I'm definitely up for it, but any chance you could all go a week or at least a few days later?
Alternatively I could get an internal flight after Hellfest and you could meet me somewhere?

I'm planning on going out in the summer since I missed this winter! I was thinking 2Alps or Tignes, I've seen accomodation at Tignes for £180 a week for 4 people. I have a little Fiat Punto so god knows how many of us that could fit ferrying it! but yeah, any time in the summers good for me if you still need people! I finish uni at the start of april and work casual hours so I can just take time off whenever!

yeah just do that...
right... I'm decided. I am going to be leaving saturday 21st June and driving over so will arrive prolly some time 22nd depending on ferry times etc...
The ferry cost £52 and fuel will be about £370 with tolls split three ways is £141 + accomodation which will be in the region of £100 each + food + lift pass???
I don't know exactly all the costs but it won't be more than £400 all in i reckon.
so who is in?... think my car is full!...

I'm in for sure, what do you think the best way to do transfers from the airport is? Will be my first time snowboarding there but I'm assuming busses and trains run fairly regularly!

It's looking pretty cheap accomodation wise, should be under €100 each (http://www.2alpes.com/2alpes.com/summer/uk/site/votresejour/hebergements/tarifs_residences.html) should be a pretty cheap getaway by the looks of it!
passtherizla - Mar 27, 2008 - 11:12 AM

That chalet looks amazing, nice and big too, I might be able to get a mate of mine along too to help fill it, I reckon as long as there's at least 6 of us then that one looks good, that way WORST CASE we get double the room each and its still only just over £100, which seems pretty decent to me! €150 for the lift passes is awesome, is that 6 days?

They are all arounf €600 for that size, but obviously with the currency difference they work out cheaper. That said between all of us none of them are too bad, so I'm cool with whatever everyone else goes for tbh! The bus transfer at €44 is amazing considering that's the price for a return!

sansomchris - Mar 27, 2008 - 03:53 PM
Post subject:
Oh right, so what dates would we be booking the place we stay at for? For us flying that is, I dunno whether they all just go saturday to saturday or what really, though I'm thinking I'll leave my car in London, looks like parking will be around £50 for the week, which is easier than getting friends or family to pay the £30 extra to get to london and back. Flights should be around £100 I reckon, hopefully including board carrage, bit of shopping around and I think I'll get them for that! So its near enough £180 for parking, transfers and flights, about £100 for accomodation and about £120 for the lift pass. So thats about £400 plus food and booze. Not too bad really!
passtherizla - Mar 27, 2008 - 03:58 PM

Just ran through the ryanair flight and it comes to just under £130 all in, :
London (Stansted) (STN) to Grenoble Lyon (GNB) 25.64 GBP
Grenoble Lyon (GNB) to London (Stansted) (STN) 24.40 GBP
Fees, Services and Travel Insurance
2 x (Airport Check in) 6.00 GBP
2 x (Pax carrying 1 Checked in Bag) 12.00 GBP
2 x (Ski) 50.00 GBP
08 Days Adult Insurance 9.49 GBP
Total Payment Amount
Excluding handling fee
127.53 GBP
Though obviously you can take off the insurance, I forgot! But still, not bad really, though I'm not sure If I'd rather pay a few quid extra for BA, never flown with Ryanair before. BA flights are £105 and I THINK board carrage is £30 return

Ha nice, sounds like a plan to me then! are you two bringing your own boards too btw? If not then ryanair's definately the way forward, their board carrage costs are higher than most other airlines but like I said, the costs work out so similar it doesn't really seem to matter which line we go for!
reckoner - Mar 30, 2008 - 04:01 PM

yea, I'm bringing a board but I don't really mind which airline we go for. As long as flight times are reasonable I'm not too bothered.

yeh bringing mine too, ive been with ryan air before dont think you get a meal thats the only thing i can think that was cr@p, but thats not really a big deal. the BA will probly be nicer and if its only a few quid more cant see a reason for not going BA.
Do we need to book soon to keep these prices low?

you are right i just logged on to it again, but it went through before from heathrow-Grenoble.
i have a map of the region here and GNB is in between lyon and grenoble but closer to grenoble. Any way looks like RyanAir then!!
the map is in a book i have and it says:
'the best option is flying to Lyon St Expery, take the bus to Grenoble with Satobus.com then get a transfer with VFD.com. Grenoble town is about 70km (45mins) away from the resort.'

thats return prices, the transfers, I'm a bit confused about, I was at Lyon St. Exupery airport yesterday so i decided to find out a bit about the transfers. I went to the Satobus desk, and asked the woman if there were any buses up to 2alpes in the summer she said, 'No'. then spoke to the guy behind me.
However satobus can take us to grenoble where we can get on the bus with VFD to 2alpes

haha great service!
Well if we can find transfers then it looks like thats the way to go. Because that matches the dates for accommodation doesn't it?

yeh the flights and accommodation are good for 21/06/08 - 28/06/08, just the transfers, but if we can get to grenoble with satobus then we can get those other transfers that were mentioned in previous posts for 44euros.

Yea I did a week in l2a in march, I had not been for a long time before that, and since then I have caught the bug too.
A bit off topic but check this out, http://www.truepresence.co.uk/snow/
Its a website idea I have been working on. I havn't even bought a domain name for it yet but it would be useful to know what people think of the idea so I can decide whether to take it further.
