How important is it to have one? I have got quite a few non-snow specific goretex shells which obviously dont have them. Do i need to get me a snow jacket or not?

Sounds like you're all kitted up. Spend the money on a cheap off peak week on snow instead. Then you'll get to see snow skirt / non snow skirt riders alike stacking and shaking out the snow.

You need one if you want to play in powder as if its not done up it will fill up! A jacket that connects to your pamts is a good idea too

You could just pull the drawstrings at the bottom of the jacket of course.
Eldi's got one of those super tech Burton jackets that comes with a dilithium injector that puts out a forcefield 5mm above the surface of the jacket...

for general on piste riding and sliding it's no great shakes...i have one on one jacket....and always forget to do it up, a connection between jacket and pant is nice, especially if you fall a lot or are riding deep pow.
but tbh don't waste the money, i guess your a newbie , and a jacket with good length and drawstrings will do the job, make sure you've got a good base layer that is nice and long to keep the back warm if the jacket rides up.

i got a unitech snowboard jacket -
it has got ~ snowskirt, fleece lining, fleece lined collar, thinsulate insulation - don't know how much but enough , breathable waterproof membrane - more breathable than waterproof but ok, zip-detachable hood with toggle fastening elastic drawstrings, zipped underarm vents, zipped handwarmer pockets with zip pullers, storm flap over full length front zip, with velcro and pressstud fasteners, inside mobile phone pocket, small inside pocket, net cargo pocket things inside, a pocket on the left side of the chest to put your chip lift pass in, ripstop polyamide shell in two tone grey material design, subtle embroidered logo. you can even unzip the snow skirt if you don't want to use it and remove it. it is a good generous comfy cut.

I have a cheap tresspass jacket that I got from tk maxx (don't say it!) a while back and it comes with a snow skirt. I went to switzerland recently, and having the snow skirt was the difference between being almost completely dry at the end of the day (me) and being completely soaked around the middle (my mate).

in Val Thorens when i was younger, i didnt do mine up and my t-shirt had a 20mm layer of ice on the inside at the bottom! i only notice when i sat on the lift!

exactly...i men a snowskirt is nice to have but it's not the end of the freeken world if you haven't got one,
theres better things to spend your money on..and if you've got spare cash then buy a jacket with a skirt.......

I don't think it matters too much... unless you intend on going cat-boarding or heli... in which case if you can afford that you can afford an amazing jacket.

personally i prefer a jacket with a snow skirt, it just helps avoid snow getting in your jacket. i think they are really good but there not neccessary, u can pull the drawstrings at the bottom of the jacket x
