Remember guys&girls, the Helth Insurance Card does NOT remove the need for getting your own insurance Warney - Jan 15, 2007 - 12:46 PM Post subject: RE: European Health Insurance Card (Replaces E111)
No, but it does give you additional card to pad your wallet out with making you look considerably richer than you actually are! Me@tyChi - Jan 15, 2007 - 01:41 PM Post subject: RE: European Health Insurance Card (Replaces E111)
Great Post but I have moved to capture a wider audience!

Aye, well recommended by all accounts - I have mine and was amazed how quickly it got sent out.
It certainly does not replace insurance, but you might find it will get a quicker response for certain types of medical treatment than when having to wait for insurance companies to sort stuff out.

Generally you'll find it pointless until you get to hospital, but usefull there:

If it hasn't been said already, I highly recommend a Carte Neige. It'll save you a fortune if you have to make a blood wagon or helicopter trip off the mountain.

You can get them at the ticket office usually. It's a little card that you pay a few euros for and it stops them from charging you a fortune to cart you off the mountain.

Worth checking the small print of your insurance, my previous insurance wouldn't pay out in europe if you didn't have an E111 or it's new plastic version. HJ - Jun 12, 2007 - 07:05 PM Post subject:
I have no idea how long it took for my first one to arrive as I moved just after applying, and myex-husband didn't forward any of my post.
The second one came within 2 days

does the carte neige cover park as well?
eldi - Oct 07, 2008 - 09:57 AM Post subject:
Carte neige only gets you off the mountain. Still well worth having tho as if you are seriously injured it gets you a chopper ride
Will - Oct 07, 2008 - 08:56 PM Post subject:
so if you get taken of the mountain from the park and you normal insurance doesnt cover it then you will have to pay?

as i found out in cham this is a very important bit of kit
i found myself in a hospital bed waiting for x-rays
when i found out travel insurance is not accepted at french hospitals i was stuck
after a few frantic phone calls home to sort out a health card which my sis done online for me a phone call to my local nhs trust and they faxed it through to the hospital i was in so it can be done quite quick if needed
but it only covers you for 80% of your medical bills so remember that people you will still have to pay something before you leave then claim it back later from your travel insurance
and it does not cover you for any mountain rescue or airlift fees as the poor woman in the bed next to me found out neither did her travel insurance she had a £1500 bill to pay
you can buy mountain rescue insurance that will cover all costs including airlift
