Post subject: Summit Park/Nevis Range Weather & Park Updates
Hi all,
Its a real sunny day no winds a perfect day for riding but no uplift at Nevis Range, although I keep hearing that Nevis Range may open next week for the weekend if conditions persist. Maybe it’s just a rumour.
Maybe if you post a message, if your up for riding next weekend on the best early snow Nevis Range as had for years maybe they will push the limits to open... It’s worth a try.
Nevis Range early this morning.
Not the best picture, the sun was a bit too bright this morning will get a few pics this evening.
If you have any questions regarding Nevis Range and the Summit Park please shout I am here to help.
Regards Mark

man that looks like a top pic, and i am well and truely up for rididng next weekend, was contemplating heading up north for a hike to ride some powpow, what do you think are the chances of getting a good run in on fresh powder, even on a hill with no uplift? or finding a spot to build a kicker to session?
cheers

Mark, have you been up on the hill recently? What's the situation with the Goose T bar? Did they strip it over the summer months and if so, have the bars been rehung yet?

Hi Folks,
Just going to nip out and get a few more shots of the hill as the sun goes down, will post them soon.
We have a few friends up at goose drive, they say the snow is knee deep powder with full cover.
They will mail me some pics tonight and I will post them. Not sure if they will make it to the summit but I will let you know.
Will be back soon with some more pics.

Wow! And that's just at the top gondola station. Mark, you're going to have to hunt for the rails and dig them out up at the summit.
Lets just hope the temp stays low over the next week and they can open next weekend.

Hi all,
No more pics to show you yet, the hill has been getting a real battering, strong gale force winds and milder temps.
Upper hill will still be getting snow, but I don’t know about ten feet of snow on the Summit.
The hike up is hardcore, 3500ft to walk and then ride...
I heard Glencoe might open at the weekend if conditions allow.
More updates and pics soon.

It's not expensive at all, only your fuel & accom costs. The lift pass for the day is the cost of an hour at Xscape (don't get me started... the euro's know how to do it properly) and the food/drink is cheap, especially compared to Bracknell/Reading prices
Do it!
lizzibeff - Nov 23, 2006 - 01:14 PM

Unfortunately, fuel and room costs are pretty expensive if you're travelling from anywhere south of the Teeside/Durham/Cumbria band.
£40-50 a night B&B
at least £50 fuel.
£20 a day lift pass.
If you're planning on staying 2 nights, riding 2 days and driving all that way it can easily be £200 for the weekend. You could go on the bash for not much more!
I must stress that Scotland is AWESOME, but i wouldn't consider it a cheap weekend of riding for those who aren't actually living on the brink of scotland or in scotland itself.

Second lizziebeff's comment.. did a 24 hour round trip to Glencoe from Glos last year, 2 up in the motor, no accommodation included - overnight drive up for 8am, left at 5 and home by midnight!.. and spent near enough 100 each..
Can't imagine how now I think about it!... Woulda been a bit cheaper with a full car..

you can get hostels/backpackers at fort william (close to the nevis range)
for as cheap as £11.00 only 40min further then glencoe (plus you get to go through glencoe on the way)
carshare 4 people in a car big saving and more fun
all makes it alot cheaper
the alps have very long runs and can be very sunny
scotland runs are short and can be very cold

Winter’s here - CairnGorm to Open This Weekend!
Snow Alert from CairnGorm Mountain
Conditions and forecast are marginal but CairnGorm Mountain is planning to open for skiing if at all possible this weekend (24/25th November).
Lifts will open for skiing from 0930-1530 (upper lifts closing 1500) on both Saturday and Sunday subject to wind speeds and weather. The mountain will be closed during the week for scheduled maintenance.
Lifts likely to be open are the Ciste T-bar, The M1 and the Funicular (again, all depending on conditions).
It is anticipated that many visitors will be season pass holders but additional tickets will be available at £16.50.
Please note that the Ticket Office is under reconstruction and the Base Station concourse area is currently occupied by the Winter market. Therefore, a temporary ticket office will be located either in the exit stairs area or the Ranger Base and entry to the railway via the exit stairs.
The Ptarmigan will be open for limited refreshments, the Ptarmigan shop and exhibition will be open.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE OTHER RESORTS ARE NOT OPENING
THIS WEEKEND AND SO CAIRNGORM IS LIKELY TO BE VERY BUSY
See you on the hill!
Please do not reply to this email - for further information on conditions on CairnGorm for this weekend visit www.cairngormmountain.com
for those not registered

If you want a bit more luxuary a decent B&B can be had for £25 a night in Fort William. Eating and drinking out is mong cheap.

Hi all,
The temperatures have been getting milder, climbing a few degrees over the past few days and the snow is creeping uphill.
Its not doom and gloom, this freeze thaw cycle is vital for building a good base to take the fresh that falls. The snow is still falling down onto Goose with the upper hill still loading up with snow.
Bike track Bob who works at Nevis Range rode the Summit a few times and then rode down Goose to the bottom and said it was in good shape.
Heading over to the Gorms this weekend, the exact same time as last year after another early dump.
Let the good times roll...

Hi folks,
Not posted a pic of the hill because it looks a bit depressing. The hill as taken a real battering, with the heavy rain and milder temps.
There is still a patchy base on the upper hill and with more snow forecast for Sunday- Monday, hopefully it will help to build the base we need.
I will be very surprised if any Scottish resorts open this weekend, hope you made the most of it last weekend at the Gorms.
More updates as conditions change.

Hi all
The forecast for the Nevis Range/Summit Park this weekend is;
Friday
Wind direction North Westerly
Wind 25-40 Mph
Freezing level 900m
Temp @ 900m 0
Saturday
Wind direction North Westerly
Wind 25-45 Mph
Freezing level 700m
Temp @ 900m –2
Sunday
Wind direction South Westerly
Wind 60-70 Mph with gusts over 100mph
Freezing level above summits
Temp @ 900m 3 to 6C
Into next week
Strong winds will continue into early next week with snow down to low levels on Monday, getting temporally milder on Tuesday. Snow showers will then continue for the rest of the week.
It’s looking unlikely that Nevis Range/Summit Park will open this weekend. The upper mountain still as good base forming and with snow falling again I don’t think it will be long until the Scottish season kicks in.

I was up at Gorm yesterday… They had two summit runs open and you could also pick your way down to the middle station but the train wasnt making stops there so we stuck to the top. Conditions were not bad, sunny in the morning and cloudy in the afternoon with hardly any wind. Was hardly anyone there too. The pisted snow was nice and soft on a firm base and off to the side there was plenty of untracked fresh snow, although to call it powder would be stretching the imagination a little too far… it was about 3 - 6 inches deep, still nice to ride though.
There's wasn’t much to do freestyle wise but we were hitting this cool stream gap. It was like a gap over the stream to a little island and then another gap over the stream back to the piste… great fun!

High pressure dominates over the Christmas holidays with winds reducing slightly with fog often at low levels.
An inversion around the Scottish areas will bring mild temps by day with widely frozen ground at sea level with freezing fog at night.
As the mild conditions continue all of the Scottish areas are losing snow, with the hope of a good start to the season vanishing. This week’s forecast is not very pleasing especially if you wanted to ride in the Christmas holidays.
I can’t see Nevis Range opening until they get more snowfall and the gorms will have had a battering over the last few days but that’s your only hope for the real stuff.
If there are any changes in the weather you will be the first to know.
Hope I have better news for you next week.

Into next week
What a change from last weeks high pressure, Atlantic lows start to pass over the North of Scotland bringing in strong winds.
Heavy falls of rain on the lowlands with frequent blizzard conditions on the higher mountains.
We have the low pressure to bring large dumps of fluffy white stuff but it needs to drop just a few degrees to bring the snow level down.
Still a bit confused on the weather situation after the New Year there will certainly be fresh snow but down to what level I am not sure.
The only place, which could possibly open this weekend, is the Gorms but with the high winds it will be a close call, everywhere else needs snow.
I will post a midweek weather update for next weekend and hopefully I will have better news.

Hi I am here in Ft. William right now, did call Nevis Range yeasterday and they said they were closed for boarding and skiing as there was no snow with only the gondola open. Today was even warmer and blistering wind so I did not even bother calling, my guess is that the gondola would be closed due to wind. I went mountain biking instead, got bloody soaked as usual but it is so warm that I did not need to wear gloves! Little of the snow on the hills I saw yesterday was mostly washed away today. The forcast for next couple of days looks even worse!

Hi Harry,
Sorry dude that there is no snow for you and your right the temps up here have been quite mild. We certainly have had the precipitation needed for big dumps, just a few degrees to warm.
The next few days actually look a bit better with freezing levels dropping as low as 800m and blizzards forecast through to the New Year on the upper hill.
I noticed the gorms were now shut, insufficient snow but I think the fresh snow falling now will help. Strong winds are causing problems as this Atlantic low passes over Scotland.
More updates coming soon.

Hi all,
I am the bringer of good tidings....
It’s dumping at the Range again with more snow forecast.
Managed to get a lift to the Summit at Nevis Range today to check out the conditions for the possibility of the lifts opening for New Years Day.
The wind packed snow as filled in most of the Goose with some sweet powder to ride. The summit has drifted snow with scrapped areas due to the 60mph winds but as some real nice cover down the sides of the summit.
I certainly think they will have the snow to open but the winds may prevent uplift. The hill closed today at midday due to strong winds.
Well I managed to get my first decent from the Summit at Nevis Range today in 50mph winds and blizzards but it still felt good.
I came down Spider at the side of the Summit then down onto Goose which had some real sweet powder full width then I rode down the up track of Goose which Chris had just pisted which was sweet.
The snow cover then was a bit thin but I managed to picked my way down on my old custom down to the restaurant, not really recommended on grass, rocks and a bit of snow but hey it beats walking.
Hopefully Nevis Range will open tomorrow please give them a call before you travel. 01397 705 825. Looks like Nevis Range will be the only resort in Scotland with sufficient snow to open.
Have a happy New Year and hopefully a happy New Years Day.
Mark.

Hi all,
Here is a few pics from midday at the top of Alpha looking across to the top of the Quad Chair.
Top of Alpha with Blizards and strong gusts of wind.
This was taken from the car park.
Nevis Range didn’t open the hill for riding today due to strong winds. Chris has spent a few hours grooming the upper hill for a possible opening tomorrow. Staff are on standby ready to run the lifts. Fingers crossed.

Cheers for the feedback!
Actually was not that bothered today, had some heavy drinking last night with some mates from uni! (actually was better off here even with gales as the street parties in Glasgow and Edinburgh got cancelled)
Well, I did not have my hopes too high this time, it is very touch and go this early in the season, plus the gales do not help.
Ok, heading back early tomorrow dawn, better luck next time. Will give a go comming here again in early march.
Ah, Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year Harry and to all.
Just a wee update to confirm that Nevis Range WILL open tomorrow. Access will be from the Quad Chair for Goose and the Summit.
The Summit as good cover except the park area, which is filling in but still scraped, so no park yet.
Goose as real good cover wind packed powder and virgin snow.... Will you be the first to track it out?
Up there early in the morning 7am lots of de-icing towers and getting the lifts ready for you to shred.
If you ride come and say hello I probably will be on the Summit Lift.
Speak soon.

The whole hill was opened (apart from the Back Corries). Using the Quad Chair, Goose T Bar and Summit Button you could go where ever you wanted. A lot of people didn't seem to realise that you could traverse over to the top of Warren's T bar from the summit. All the more fresh tracks for me
There is usually a park up beside the summit button. However, the area was a little wind scoured yesterday and a few of the rails where buried. I'm sure Mark will let everyone on the forum know when he's got a few features set up.

Im having a few problems attaching photo's to the board but there has been a big change in the skiing available and the conditions in the runs today.
The summit, to be frank is more or less an ice rink, but i dont think the bashers can do anything about it really because of the high winds. There's a definite need for brave pills to be handed out at the poma. The top half of the goose that is open is pretty heavy.
The weather today was very windy, i think at one point i was heading back up the summit run rather than down it, and the snowblast in the face didnt go down to well either. Unfortunately i didnt get there till 1, and by 2 the tow had broken. It broke for a good half hour to fourty minutes and i simply gave up and headed back down after only two runs, after some faffing about with my camera to amuse myself.
The quad was pretty sketchy, and not being one for heights it wasnt so exciting for me.
But fair play to Nevis for making a go of it, there's no way that the lifty on the summit, not sure if it was Mark, was enjoying the weather. But hopefully it gets hit with some snow soon. They deserve it i reckon.

It was a wild whiteout sort of day but enjoyable, Goose had some sweet packed powder making a great base for further snowfall.
The bottom half of the Park is filling in, still a bit scrapped higher up but starting to load around the fences, some fences have been buried completely.

Tuesday looks like it will be the only day were the winds will fall below 20Mph with isolated snow showers and a temperature of -2 @ 900m looking like a sunny day.
The forecast then looks like we will be hammered again with strong upland gales, hurricane force at times. There will be widespread precipitation with snow on the higher Scottish areas.
Periods of squally showers giving blizzard like conditions across the whole of the highlands from Tuesday to Friday.
Fresh snow as been falling down onto goose with the Summits receiving fresh snow daily.
As from next weekend I will be up in the Park full time so I am sure by next weekend conditions allowing the park will start to take shape. More info midweek.
We are certainly getting the precipitation required for big dumps but we need the temps to stay a few degrees lower.

They look like pics from the Coe, don’t understand why you didn’t come up at Nevis Range they were open all day.
Yea they had to shut the Quad Chair for a few hours, but you could get a lift up to Goose on the back of the Cat, then they reopened Quad.
The winds were a bit strong but the snow was good, can’t wait to rip tomorrow.

They were from Coe. Didn't think to get the phone out at Nevis.
We were told by the lifty at nevis, the blues off the quad were poor, then a woman in black pants and top ( out of office ) came out and told us they were dragging people off the mountain due to winds, with a review later. I would have gone anywhere, but wanted the Mrs to be happy, and she said she wanted to go on the quad, as she is fresh out of lessons and hates drags.
i am REALLY pi**ed off now - but see ya all next weekend. Where's a decent place to stop over up there ? ( decent - read cheap )

Sorry no work as been done in the Park, visibility on the Summit was down to 30M most of the day making it impossible to do anything. Will try Monday to get a few jumps put in.
The snow is good up here, dry wind packed, with fresh blown powder and with temps to stay low the snow will stay good.
Up the hill tomorrow, if the park doesn’t open I will be cruzing some sweet pisted slopes and catching a few freshies.

Park & Weather Update
We still only have one jump in the park, the 6m-Dog Box is now in the park but we were unable to get it set-up due to the strong winds and hill fog over the weekend.
I will be in the park on Friday & Saturday working hard to get things moving, I am desperate to get this park rolling.
The Scottish weather is not helping us much at the moment and with milder weather forecast it's trying to put a stop to our fun.
We are also looking to put out some rookie rails for next weekend a 2mtr Box and a 4mtr Box.

Outlook from 03.02.07-10.02.07
Outlook for Saturday
Another bright or sunny day with accessional scattered showers. Wind 20-35 with the freezing level above the summit.
Outlook for Sunday
Rain with sleet falling to 600m and snow above 400m. Brighter conditions with snow showers following into the Northwest Highlands.
Outlook for Monday
Bright or sunny spells and snow showers, leading to temporary blizzard conditions. Strong winds across the summits.
General Outlook
Summit runs are all complete with Summit run a bit thin near the mast. Inside edge and Goose pisted up real sweet today with the snow softening early in the day, Should be the same for Saturday.
The forcast is saying that from late Sunday snow fall will increase with blizzard conditions developing early in the week as Atlantic lows push across Britain. This will produce snow at low levels, then rising to give snow around 700m and above through the week.
Its looking like we will get the snow we need next week.
Park Update
The Park area has had a real pounding from the rain and the severe thaw, it’s not been a good week for the Scottish resorts.
We still have snow in the park but very little, we may be able to sort the jump out and possibly set up the Dog Box Rail but we desperately need the snow that is forecast for the beginning of the week.
We have another 2 rails to take up to the Park, the two 3.5m Rookie Box Rails to get you rookies riding and getting the feel for sliding.
Maybe next week we may see the Rainbow Box… and also the Jib Tube, don’t ask, just wait and see.
Please someone give us the snow to build our Park we want to have some fun.

Hi all,
Sun sun sun and more sun, what a day at the Range, the views were amazing.
The snow was hard packed and icy but pisted up well with the Summit runs in good shape. Goose had been pisted 5 cats wide but still a bit icy but sharp edges took care of that.
If you dare to go off piste it was bullet proof and rattled your legs that much you thought your teeth were going to fall out.
No lift que’s just a handful of people on the hill, with smiles on their faces.

Park Update
After the crazy thaw a week or so ago the Park has struggled to recover with cold temps but little snow. We have had more snow over the last few days which is helping to improve the Park area and is nearly ready to set-up.
Were still not sure on the weather for the weekend 17.02.07 but hopefully we will be setting up two Rookie 12 ft Box Rails also the 20ft Dog Box and the Wide Ass Rainbow Box.
Hopefully we will have enough snow so we may be able to set-up the side on 12ft Street Style rail and a 15ft Jump this depends on the accumulations through the week.
We also have more sick rails to grace the Park yet and these will show their gnarly face as soon as the snow conditions allow.
I have been waiting to get our toys out for weeks and maybe this weekend we will have a Park ready to shred.
More updates mid-week.
Wherever you ride ENJOY

Mid-week Outlook
Forecast for Thursday
Cloudy with widespread hill fog and rain, heavy at times across the west. Storm or hurricane force winds across the summits leading to a severe wind chill.
Visibility/cloud base
Moderate or good, but poor in fog and heavier rain / Scattered or broken 600 to 900m with patches down to 300m and more so across the west.
Wind/temperature/freezing level
South 60 to 70mph with gusts in excess of 100mph / 3C / 1200m.
Outlook for Friday
Bright or sunny, although the sunshine may be rather hazy at times. strong winds across the summits.
Outlook for Saturday
Showers, some heavy and prolonged and wintry across the higher ground with lighter winds.
Outlook for Sunday
Dry with bright or sunny spells.
This is the Met Office mountain forecast and this really sums up the rest of this week, it’s simply what I thought, more bloody wind, but to drop of for the weekend.
Park Update
Yea we have a Park at last, we put in the two 12ft Rookie Box Rails, the Wide Ass Rainbow Box and the 20ft Dog Box.
The jump needs work but not until these winds die down as it would just rip the snow away into the Backs.
More rails to grace the Park as soon as conditions allow, including one of my favs the C-Box.
Feel the need for steel...

Hi all,
Park Update
Yea we have a Park set up, two 12ft Rookie Box Rails, the Wide Ass Rainbow Box and the 20ft Dog Box.
The Park as took a battering with the winds and the thaw again but we still have enough to open the 4 rails in the Park. I managed to get a few rides on the Wide Ass Rainbow for the first time today... its so slick its sick, you folks will want to take it home with ya.
There are more Rails to go out including the New C-Box, New 15ft Kinked Rail, 10ft Street Style side on, 20ft Street Style side on and the New 30ft Battleship Box, the up to flat to down.
I don’t know about you guys but that seems like one sick Park to me, some real sweet rails for all levels.
Jumps will be built as soon as we get enough of the white stuff its a bit scarce up here at the moment, but things can change quickly, and when they do, our park will be fully stoked with some of Scotland finest rails and Jumps.
Feel the need for steel...

oh boy, the goose was like one big ice rink today. People flying down it all day today, mostly on either on their arse or on their heads.
Summit run was fun though, although i did manage to wipe out a poor unsuspecting girl on a board in the poma line cus of some ice, so if it was anyone on here, sorry, again!
no pics today, but stevie mac was buzzing about with his camera. Was completely jealous as it was a perfect day for pics. link is here, http://www.winterhighland.info/publicre ... php?50,358
goose was loading from tower 4, and the line alongside the goose t bar was the best as it had more grip, the main run was bombproof and took many victims today, mostly beginners, on a fast track run down the hill. Cats alley was rocky and the turn was very thin. Good challenging day all the same. next time ill maybe remember to take my camera, and maybe an ice axe!
btw, parks looking good. Thank god someones making an effort, gorms take note!!

Mid-week Outlook
Thursday
Widespread hill fog with rain & snow, heavy at times, but it will brighten up from the south and west with occasional showers. Stronger winds will push in with winds 20-35 mph.
Friday
Bright or sunny spells and occasional showers, these becoming more frequent across southern ranges through the afternoon.
Saturday
Bright or sunny spells and showers, some heavy and prolonged.
Sunday
Showers, some heavy and prolonged, and turning increasingly wintry.
This is what the met office had to say...lets see if they get it right.
Park Update
Yea the Park is shaping up nicely with more rails to go out for the weekend and more jumps being formed around the Park.
Yea we need more snow to build bigger jumps but we probably have Scotland’s sweetest set up at the moment and with loads of rails still to go out come and sample some Park Life at the Summit Park.
Sure to be a good weekend even if the weather isn’t good the Park will be rocking and after the turn out last weekend I cant wait.

Saturday
Snow showers on the Summits with light drizzle lower down with misty patches passing through with a few glimpses of sunshine.
Sunday
A mixture of sunshine and snow showers down to 1000m with dry periods for a time.
Monday
Looking like a good day with light winds the odd snow shower down to lower Goose and by midday the summit should be clear with excellent visibility.
Tuesday
Looking like a mild day after the wee drop in temperatures over the last few days, hopefully I have got it wrong for Tuesday, will let you know on the mid-week report.
Slope Conditions
Some real sweet riding today all the way from the Summit down to Tower 4 on Goose to catch the lift back up.
With the milder temps the hill is like spring riding with fresh wet snow on the Summit runs and in the Park, it was one of those days if you fell over you couldn’t hurt yourself.
Hopefully we will get some more fresh on the Summit runs over the weekend with temperatures falling slightly, snow should fall on the Goose over the next few days.
Park Update
The Park is still pulling through the wee thaw we have had fresh wet snow in the Park with drifting along the fence lines giving us a wee bit more of the white nice stuff.
Out comes the Kinked Rail for the weekend we built the plinth to take the rail earlier in the week so its just ready to go in.. Can’t wait.
At the mo we have out the two 12ft Rookie Boxes the 20ft Dog Box the Wide Ass Rainbow Box the Flat to Down to go out also not forgetting the 15ft jump and the wee Rookie jump at the side of the Rainbow.
We haven’t got tons of snow but the set up is sweet all we need now is more snow so we can pull out the Stainless C-Box and quite a few more Rails to feast your appetite on.
Also when we have the snow we will start building the 40ft Big Air Booter but there is no chance of that yet we need the snow.
Wherever you ride... ENJOY

Mid-week Outlook
Friday
A few light snow showers, otherwise dry and bright with plenty of sunshine although it will become cloudy during the afternoon.
Excellent visibility with only patchy cloud cover up around 800M but high cloud with bases above the summits becoming extensive during afternoon.
At 900M, very light winds at first, 10 mph or less. The wind becoming southerly and increasing 20 to 30 in the afternoon. Minus 4 Celsius with the freezing level around 500M but some frozen surfaces lower down during the morning.
Saturday
Any overnight rain with snow on higher peaks quickly clearing then sunny spells and a few showers. Fresh southwest winds across the summits.
Sunday
Mainly dry bright morning but rain, preceded by snow on higher peaks arriving from south during the day, accompanied by strong possibly gale force Southeasterly winds.
Outlook for Monday
A deep area of low pressure off Northwest Scotland will result in a very windy, showery day. There will be strong winds possibly gale force over the tops and frequent blustery showers, prolonged at times with snow on higher summits.
This is what the met office had to say, they got it right last week, lets see if they get it right again.
Park Update
There is more snow around to start shaping the jumps and making them bigger with small rookie jumps being formed around the Park.
I will be in the Park this weekend constantly maintaining the jumps and Rails for your delight, we also have yet another Rookie Box Rail to go out at the top of the Park making that 3 Rookie rails to get you started.
The Dog box will be set up with a gap on and that’s same with the Kinked Rail. The Rainbow Box is feeling sweet and has been a big hit with the intermediate riders.
The main jump in the Park will be set up with two take offs set up for intermediate to advanced riders. We have also started to pile up the snow for the Big Air Booter. How big shall we build it... I think we should make it so gnarly it scares the sh1t out of you.
More Rails to grace the Park next weekend as the snow starts to build.
Don’t forget the Summit Park Slopestyle & Big Air Comp sponsored by Boardwise on the 24th March, hope ta see ya.

Saturday and Sunday are looking like stormbound days with strong to severe upland gales.
Monday should bring frequent fresh snow showers above 900 meters, has a ridge of high pressure starts to build and that will probably bring snow showers with lighter winds but still a blustery day
More info on the Mid-week Updates.
Park Update
The Park took a real beating over the past week with strong winds and blizzards piling up the snow along the fences and huge drifts across the Park.
The Park has been closed for the past few days with excessive snow build up, we have had to dig the Rails out and we will have to reshape the Park. We will be resetting the Rails as soon as we get a clear day and the winds drop.
The C-Box will be going out next week with its shinny Stainless steel lid, also another Rookie Box... yea that’s 3 we have now, also we will have a Rookie line down the right hand side of the park, 3 Box Rails and 3 Rollers/Jumps.
So your saying what about us we want some more tech rails... Ok first of all you can hit the Park Kicker for some airtime then you can take a slight right and hit another kicker and then into the Kinked Rail and then into the Sweet Sweet C-Box.
Or you could rewind go back to the first Park Kicker carry straight on and hit the gapped 20ft Dog Box, then onto the Wide Ass Rainbow Box and then onto the C-box.
Sounds like a sweet run to me I am out of breath thinking about it. Hopefully the Kinked Rail will be replaced with the 30ft Battleship Box for the comp.
Lets not forget about the huge booter for the Big Air this is still under construction, we still need a wee bit more snow to get the size we want... and we want BIG.
Looking forward to 24th March Comp it sounds like it will go off...
Wherever you ride... ENJOY

The weather is just your luck. It's Scotland! Once day could be blue skies with views out over the Cullins on the Isle of Sky. Then the next day you might struggle to see 10yds in front of you.
The comp is a Slopestyle and Big Air event on Sat 24th March.
Air Bag?? I doubt they'll ever have an Air Bag up on Nevis. Apart from the logistic of getting it up there, there's also the small matter of stopping it turning into a kite and ending up on Ben Nevis. All the rails have to be tethered down and they struggle with them sometimes. I know there was talk of a timber wall ride this season, but they didn't fancy fetching it out of the back corries after every windy night.

Have a look at www.winterhighland.info for all the latest updates on the conditions.
It's not looking good for tomorrow with winds forecast up to 60mph. If it was me, I wouldn't go.

Outlook from Saturday 17-03-07
Saturday
Cloudy with outbreaks of rain, falling as snow at first on summits above 1000m.
Visibility/cloud base
Moderate or poor / overcast, bases 600m lowering to 300m in parts of the west.
Wind/temperature/freezing level
Westerly 40 increasing 65 gusts 90mph. 1 Celsius rising to 3 Celsius. 1100m rising above summits.
This is where it begins to change....
Outlook for Sunday
Sunny intervals and snow showers, frequent and heavy with temporary blizzard conditions. Freezing level 500m. Gale force west to northwest winds.
Outlook for Monday
Sunny intervals and snow showers, these most frequent in the north though some developing by day in the south. Temporary blizzard conditions in the north. North to northwesterly gales. Freezing level 200m.
Outlook for Tuesday
Sunny intervals and snow showers, these most frequent in the north though some developing by day in the south. Temporary blizzard conditions in the north. North to northwesterly gales. Freezing level 200m.
This info is from the Met office and they have been pretty spot on lately.
Not looking good for the weekend with gale force winds are likely to keep the Scottish resorts closed, but on the other hand its looking good as far as snowfall as temps plummet and snow falls to all levels.
There will be snowfall on the summits through Saturday with substantial falls for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday and possibly the rest of the week. Then all we need is a wind free day to ride the Park and Freshies.
Park Update.
Not been in the Park for 7 days now, strong to gale force winds and mild temps have tried to stop us having some fun... but its about to change....
Fresh snow is forecasted hopefully bring quite a large dump over quite a few days so maybe this is what we have been waiting for, a week before the Comp, could we have timed it any better.
The Park still needs to be set but the layout as been confirmed check it out PARK LAYOUT, work will start as soon as the weather lets us in.
Want to enter the comp and win some sweet sweet prizes ...

Outlook from Saturday 31-04-07
Saturday
Any mist or low cloud will gradually burn off to allow some long sunny spells to develop in all areas.
Visibility/cloud base
Moderate at first then becoming good / areas of cloud at 300 to 500m mainly areas exposed to the east, this burning off to small amounts.
Wind/temperature/freezing level
Easterly 25mph easing 15. Minus 1 Celsius at dawn rising to plus 5. 800m rising above the summits.
Outlook for Sunday
Fine and dry with some sunny spells. Light winds and freezing levels mainly above summits though with some early frost.
Outlook for Monday
Remaining dry with some sunny spells, perhaps a little more cloud over the Aberdeenshire hills. Moderate northwesterly wind. Freezing level mainly above summits after early frost.
Outlook for Tuesday
Staying fine and dry with some sunshine. Mostly light northwest winds.
Looking like a settled week.
Park Update
The Park is still set up sweet from the Comp last Saturday and with some fresh snow mid week it has freshened things up.
We have a sweet Rookie line down the right hand side of the Park with 3 10-12ft Rookie Box rails in a line with two rollers straight after, to get you ready for the bigger park jumps.
The intermediate to advanced line consists of the 20ft Table Top then the 20ft Flat Dog Box onto the Wide Ass Rainbow Box and then down into the shinny new C-Box. You can rewind back to the first jump and then go into a smaller 15ft Table Top then down into the C-box.
Lets hope the season goes through to May, we have had some sweet sunny days and the Park is such fun on good days, oh and my goggle tan is doing just fine.
Mark.

Post subject: Summit Park is ready to roll....
Hi all,
Its nearly that time of year when the Scottish resorts are hoping for a epic season and the seasonal staff have got a wee buzz about them as the season grows closer. For me summer is just a count down for winter and quicker the summer goes by the better, so its nearly time to pull out the metal and build a Park Scotland can be proud of the Summit Park.
There will be regular weather and Park updates here on the SCUK Forum and at www.summitpark.eu as well as the Forum and the new Summit Park Bebo site. www.bebo.com/summitpark
The Bebo site is loaded with Park info, loads of pics with tunes and a shed load of vids including the Legion vid of the Summit Park comp last season, which was chilled jam sesh with 42 riders on a bluebird day and what more we had a Ice Bar, top that... .
A huge thanks to you guys and gals here at SCUK for making it worthwhile me posting weather updates, with nearly 17000 views it was a great success and I hope it helped you to pick the best days for a trip to the Park.
Nevis Range opens for the winter season on the 20th Dec and with most of the Park features already on the Summit, we should have the Park open pretty quick.
I will post some pics as soon as the hill as snow.
Well that’s it for now, so just let the good times roll,
Mark.

How easy is it to get accommodation at short notice in one of the hostels? Once the snow comes we are planning a few mad runs up to Scotland this year. I'd just kip down in the car but that might be a little hard core with a 9 year old in tow.

Hi Le_Bear,
Yea there’s quite a few hostels in Fort William and loads of bed and breakfasts from about £12.50 pppn and short notice is not a problem. Fort William is about five miles from the Range.
What I would recommend you do
