Question

Answer

Do I have to pay to use the website?

Not at all. You can view just about all the content of the website totally free. You don't even need to register to get to most of it.

Does it cost to become a registered user of the website?

Again, there is no charge to become a registered user of the site.

Being a registered user allows the website to know who you are so you can interact with all the nice stuff we have now and will be developing in the future.

Once you've registered, we hope you'll then decide to become a member. It's only then that you need to pay to join SCUK.

How do I change my username?

At the moment you can't. Also remember that members will have their username on their membership card so changing it might cause you a bit of a problem when using discounts with our partners.

However, this is a feature that's been requested a few times, so it's now on the todo list... quite near the top.

I'm waiting for my password. Where is it?

When you sign up, your password is sent to you immediately, so it should turn up within minutes.

However, check your spam filters. Hotmail in particular is really hard to send automated emails to. The email might be sitting in a spam or deleted folder. If you can't find it, change your spam filters to allow emails from editor@ and info@snowboardclub.co.uk and then re-request your password from the login screen.

In Hotmail:
Options > Junk E-Mail Protection > SafeList
Then add editor@snowboardclub.co.uk and then admin@snowboardclub.co.uk

How do I add a link in my forum signature?

Read the forum FAQ, which is displayed at the top of each forum page for a heap of useful bits and bobs.

In this case you use BBCode to create the link like this:

[url=http://www.snowboardclub.co.uk]SCUK[/url]

It's the same in you signature as it is in normal posts.

I keep getting "You are not authorized to carry out this operation" when I'm trying to register an account/sign up for membership.

This is usually caused on our site as you complete and enter various forms during the creation of a user account or when signing up as a paid member. It is caused through the use of the browser's Back button and is a security feature built in to the website.

The easiest solution if you see this message is to go back to the start of the registration process and then do a "hard refresh" to clear the browser's cache - on IE you can hard refresh using ctrl-F5.

You should be able to continue the registration process, but you should avoid using the browser's Back button. If you do, then do another hard refresh before re-submitting the form.
